The Biology syllabus is having a massive change from 2027 onwards. In the previous syllabus, it was possible to have major content gaps in your Year 11 content and still do perfectly fine in Year 12.

With the new syllabus starting in 2027, even small content gaps or weaknesses in Year 11 will significantly impact your performance and understanding in Year 12, negatively impacting your final HSC exam and ATAR.

The new 2027 Biology syllabus is a major shift from the previous one, with Year 11 content understanding being a necessary prerequisite for Year 12 content. This means that having any content gaps in Year 11 will impact your Biology marks in Year 12.

There is also a larger emphasis on scientific skills such as drawing diagrams and creating scientific experiments in both Year 11 and Year 12.

Your first assessment task for Year 12, which directly contributes towards your final rankings and impacts your ATAR, is in Term 4. There is no need to unnecessarily risk getting a poor mark in your first Year 12 assessment.

It is better to build your skills and content knowledge for Year 12 correctly from the get-go, avoiding the need to cram or catch up when Term 1 starts.
